April 17, 1907WRIGHT PLACED UNDER $1000 BONDS
George Wright appeared in Justice Skemp's court at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon on a charge of highway robbery, and waiving preliminary examination, was bound over to the grand jury in the sum of $1000. Being unable to furnish a bond, the prisoner was taken back to jail.
Crowd Was Disappointed.
Owing to the nature of the crime, the little court-room was crowded with interested spectators, expecting to hear some exciting testimony, and they were naturally a little bit disappointed when proceedings were brought to such an abrupt termination.
Several months ago Wright enticed a mute into an alley to the rear of an uptown saloon, and after cruelly striking him with a pop bottle, proceeded to rob him, securing, however, only two dollars for his trouble.
A charge of assault and battery was preferred against him and ever since that time he has been serving time in jail for this offense. His term expired on Wednesday and he was immediately brought into court on the other charge, only to waive hearing and be sent back again.
