DUBUQUE BOY A NAVY LIEUTENANT
Leo Sahm Of This City Receives Appointment On Monday.
JUST BACK FROM THE ORIENT
Took Examination at Capitol City After an Absence of Three Years.
Word has just been received from Washington to the effect that Leo Sahm, a widely known young man of Dubuque, had just received an appointment as lieutenant in the United States navy, having passed a successful examination for that honor in the capitol city during the past week.
Up to several weeks ago, Mr. Sahm had been stationed in the Philippines, and had returned to his native land after an absence of three years for the especial purpose of taking the examination at Washington.
The lieutenant is a graduate of the Dubuque high school, after completing the course in which institution he attended the naval academy at Annapolis. He entered the navy as a midshipman, from which position he climbed to that of Ensign, which was his official title up to the time of his receiving the appointment for lieutenant.
Mr. Sahm's many friends throughout Dubuque will be glad to know of the honor which has come to him. His return to Dubuque is expected on Monday night.
