David J. Crotty was arrested in Chicago last Friday by Sherriff Phillips, and brought to Dubuque to answer to the charge of embezzling $2,700 from the wholesale liquor firm of Jaeger & Lange, his former employer. A year ago he collected the above sum and fled to parts unknown. He roamed over the country for some time, but finally settled down in Chicago and secured a position in the County Treasurer’s office, where he was detected and arrested. Crotty is widely known in this community, is of easy address, voluble and was a successful salesman but is intimated that his weakness for the fascinating “game of draw” has been his bane.
