Thomas Dunn was born in Iowa Township in February 1854. Parents were Mrs. and Mrs. John Dunn who were pioneer settlors.

On February 11, 1879 he was married to Miss Hannah Duggan at St. Clément’s Church in Bankston. In 1889, at the age of 35, Mr. Dunn was elected to the office of Dubuque County Supervisor. He served six terms and during that time the Dubuque County Courthouse was constructed in 1889. Engraved on the cornerstone of the Court House are the names of the seven supervisors who were in office at the time the building was constructed. They are Peter Klauer of Dubuque; F. Cunningham of Farley; D. C. Stuart of Asbury; Joe Schemmel, New Vienna; Joseph Schuller, Sherrill’s Mound; M. V. McNamara, of Key West and Thomas Dunn of Farley. Now 131 years old.

They had one adopted daughter-Mrs. N. J. Dalter of Dubuque. Mr. and Mrs. Dunn retired in 1912 and came to Farley. Mrs. Dunn died April 19, 1932. Mr. Dunn died December 12, 1934.
