Dubuque Telegraph Herald - October 4, 1915 - Brattleborro (Vt.) Daily Reformer) - Alexander Campbell Walker of West Brattleborro, who would have been 86 years old today, died about 7:35 o’clock yesterday morning in the home of Mrs. Walker’s father, H. Harry Miller, in Dummerston, where Mr. and Mrs. Walker had been since April 23d. The direct cause of death was an acute attack of Angina Pectoris.

Mr. Walker fell near his home on Greenleaf street last January and fractured his hip. He recovered so that he was able to walk with use of crutches but never fully regained his strength. Mr and Mrs Walker came to West Brattleborro 6 years ago and bought a home on Greenleaf street.

Mr Walker was born in Dummerston on Sept 27th, 1829. His father was Dr Sewell Walker, a practicing physician and his grandfather was Jones Walker, an ensign in the war of the Revolution. His mother was Lucretia Miller, daughter of Marshall Miller Sr. who also was a Revolutionary soldier and was in the expedition to Bennington.

In 1851 Mr Walker went to Boston, where he was employed 8 years by the Daniel Weld East India Good Co on South Market street. Beginning at the bottom he became head clerk and buyer and doubtless would have entered into partnership but on the breaking out of the war Mr Weld went out of business.

In April 1865 Mr Walker came west and located in Farley, Iowa where he made his home for more than 40 years. Here with his brother P.F. Walker he carried on a successful mercantile business under the firm name of A.C. Walker and Co.

Mr Walker was twice married. In 1868 he married Mrs Rebecca Richards, who died in 1897 and in 1904 he married Miss Mary Dill Miller of Dummerston, who survives.

He also leaves one step daughter, Harriet, wife of Dr. C. Allen Snyder of Dubuque, Iowa and three grandchildren: Miss Maylou Richards of Charter Oak, Iowa, Mrs. J. Raymond Hoover of Washington, D.C. and Cary J. Snyder of Omaha, Neb., and one great grandchild.

He was a man of sterling old New England characteristics intensely loyal to any cause which he espoused and thoroughly honorable in all his dealings.

The funeral will be held in the old church in Dummerston Wednesday. The burial will take place in Dummerston.
