Paul N. Thul (1897-1962) grew up in the Bankston area, receiving his education in the one room Thielen School House. Katherine D. Streif (1900-1983) was born four miles southeast of Bankston. She attended school at Millville. They were married at St. Clement’s, Bankston, Feb. 19, 1924. The Thul’s later moved to the Henry and Ida Heiring dairy farm in Farley. A large portion of this property is now included in the western Dubuque School system: the Farley City Park and four acres of it is used in housing development. Besides general farm work, Paul used a team of horses to assist him in digging basements for new homes in town. The Thul’s had one daughter, Dorothy. Dorothy worked as A. E. Kelly’s last secretary clerk and the Greenwood Bros. first clerk. She married Wilbert Urbain in 1949. They Urbain's farmed five miles south of Farley on the Slaven farm. In 1960 their home burned and the moved to the Breen farm two miles west of town until their retirement. They had nine children.
