John Scherrman, Sr. (1862-1939) immigrated to America from Germany about 1884, coming west to Bloomington, Illinois. There John married Mary Leins (1862-1932). Arriving in Farley in 1905, they farmed northwest of town on the Olde Fort Lane on the farm now owned by Lloyd and Marlene Till. The Scherrman’s had seven children: Katherine (Mrs. William Griffin); Joseph (Opened the Scherrman’s garage in 1919-later joined brothers John and Frank); William died (while with American Expeditionary Forces in 1918 in WWI-Sherrman-Peterson Legion Post named in his honor); John; Frank; Frances (died at age 22); and a daughter who died infancy.
