John P. & Mary C. (Connell) Sanner

John P. Sanner was born July 27, 1868 and was educated in Delaware County. His parents were George and Mary Willging Sanner, natives of Germany. George and Mary had come from the old country first to Ohio, then to Dubuque and finally to Delaware County. John P. married Mary C. Connell on May 2, 1892. Mary’s parents had come to Taylor Township in the early 1850’s. She was the daughter of Michael and Catherine (Seery) Connell and born June 29, 1864.

John and Mary Sanner farmed to old homestead for one year after their marriage. In the autumn of 1893 they moved to Dubuque where John worked in the shops of the Chicago & Milwaukee RR Co. He then earned the wholesale grocery trade, being associated with John T Hancock. In March 1899, the Sanner’s come to Farley and began a mercantile business, taking over the Walker Store. Upon the organization of the Farley State Bank, in 1906, Mr. Sanner was elected president. He served as town council president and was well known throughout the area. The Sanner home was located where Mrs. Betty Boge presently lives-205 2nd Ave. N.W. Mary died on May 13, 1929. John died July 29, 1944. They are buried at St. Joseph’s Catholic cemetery.
The Sanner children were; John J., Charles George, Mable F., Leo M., Addelan C., Clarence H., Thomas J., and Loyola A.
