(Born Bankton, IA, Mar. 22, 1846 - Died Dubuque, IA., Apr. 9, 1925). Supervisor. After serving one term from January 1, 1896, to December 31, 1898, on the Dubuque County Board of Supervisors, Callahan was employed as a jailer under County Sheriff J. J. Dunn. Prior to his election to the Board, Callahan rented rooms and operated a saloon in Farley where in his early 1900s he operated the Loomis Hotel.

John J. Callahan, son of John and Mary (Foley) Callahan, rented boarding rooms and ran a saloon in Farley. This business was, located east of our present bank. This two story building had two fires, one in 1908 and another in 1910 but continued in business. This was a popular meeting place in town.
