Rufus Edward & Louisa Jane (Pitman) Knapp & Family

Rufus Edward Knapp was born March 1861 in Spring Valley, Iowa. He married Louisa Jane Pitman in Farley. He was a teacher for a time and was active in town politics. He was also a carpenter, contractor, traveling salesman and had a restaurant in the Gibb’s Block.

To Rufus and Louisa six children were born: Charles, Elva, Albert, Dorothy, Louis and Glenn (Skeeter). They all graduated from the Farley Public Schools.

Elva and Albert left Farley and moved to California. Dorothy died at age 19. Louis, Charles and Glenn remained in Farley.

Charles was a mail carrier and later had his own mechanic business. He married Geneva Harris and they had one daughter, Kamilla. Geneva was from Farley. They were active in the Masonic Lodge in Farley. Charlie was a fifty year member of the lodge. Geneva was a fifty year member of the Eastern Star.

Louis Knapp worked for many years Farley and Loetcher Manufacturing Company in Dubuque. He was an avid bowler.

Glenn (Skeeter) was a painter and musician. He played drums for several local bands. He worked at John Deere as a painter.

Louis nd Glenn lived in the Knapp home after the death of their parents. Home was located at 308 2nd Street N.E.
