Francis McBride, Sr. came to Farley in 1913 from rural Springfield, Illinois. Francis and his wife, Sarah Drain, emigrated from Northern Ireland. They were married at St. Mary’s church, Moneyglass, Tommebridge, in county Antrim, on April 24, 1891.

For many years Francis engaged in railroading in the Springfield, IL. area. At Farley they lived on a farms west and southwest of Farley.
Sarah died in 1925 at the age of 60 after a short illness. Francis moved to Farley where he lived alone. Francis, Sr. died in 1954 at the age of 86.

There were six children: Francis A., Mary, William, Sadie, John and Josephine.
