Horse Stolen

George Wilde is the victim of a villain in the shape of a horse thief-or at least has every reason to believe so. Last Monday a man came to the livery stable and hired a horse to ride to the Monastery, promising to be back by Tuesday. Tuesday came, but no horse; and now at the end of a week’s time it is safe to conclude that a sharp confidence game has been played. Mr. Wilde has been unable to obtain any trace of the direction taken by the thief. A description of the thief and the horse will be found in the advertisement headed “$75 Reward,” on our first page.

$75 REWARD
STOLEN, from the subscriber, on Monday, May 15, a sorrel horse, with a white star in the forehead, and no other white except some small saddle marks; very high in the withers; nine years old and about fifteen hands high: when taken was newly shod, the shoes bearing the imprint of D. Grant, Dubuque. The supposed thief was apparently about 25 years old, 5 feet 8 inches high, rather slim, of a slight complexion, very much freckled, sandy hair, and mustache dyed black. The undersigned will give $25 for the recovery of the horse, and $50 for the capture of the thief.

GEORGE WILDE
