Owners of steamers are cautioned against naming their boats anything that begins with “M.” the following boats which commence with that letter, says the St. Louis Republican, have blown up, sunk and burned during the past quarter of a century: Moselle, Monsoon, Moravian, Mound City, Maid of New Orleans, Modoc, Mary Agnes, Montauk, Missouri, Mail, two Magentas, Monarch, Metamora, Maggie Hays, Maggie, Maria Memphis, two Mohawks, Mayflower, Michigan, two Mountaineers, two Moguls, Martha Jewett, Mar(z)quetta, Mississippi, Missouri, Mail Boy, Mandern No. 2, Monsoon No. 2, Martha Washington, Mohican, Maria Denning, Mamaluke, Magnolia, Mittie Stephens, May Lowry, Minneola, and Mary Bell.
