Joseph William Stocks, son of John William and Sarah Stocks, was a carpenter in Sheffield, Iowa and fell from a rooftop, or scaffold in August or September 1876. He later died from injuries. His youngest daughter was born that September of 1876. He was then buried at Cottage Hill and his family moved to the Plattville - Belmont area of Wisconsin.
