Michael Schmitt, of Ralingen, Germany also settled in this area. He arrived in the U. S. on the same ship as Peter Schmitt. Michael Schmitt is not related to either Peter or Nicholas Schmitt. However, Michael Schmitt and Angeline Keil Schmitt, the wife of Nicholas Schmitt, have a common ancestor. Therefore, the descendants of Michael and Nicholas are related. Michael Schmitt married Catherine Theilen June 4, 1853 in Dubuque Co. They purchased land to farm in NW ¼ NW¼ section 4 of Iowa Township. That parcel joined Peter Schmitt's land in Concord Township. Michael and Catherine Schmitt had nine children. Most married and settled in Concord Township. Also, the three Schmitt families are members of the Holy Cross and Richardsville Catholic Churches
