The reveille has sounded for Thomas Henney, the well-known veteran and pioneer resident and many in Dubuque mourn his death. Mr. Henney has been sick for some time and was taken to Finley Hospital. All that could be done was done for him, but his useful life was ended and his Maker’s call was not to go unheeded. His death occurred at 5:30 Saturday morning.

Mr. Henney came to this country in 1848, was born in Cockermouth, Cumberland County, England Jan. 2, 1827, and was therefore 73 years and six months of age, and after eight years residence in New York, in 1856 came to Dubuque, where he has since resided. Mr. Henney had an honorable military career and was highly esteemed by his comrades in the G. A. R. He was one of the original Governor Grey’s and served as sergeant in the First Iowa and served at Wilson’s Creek engagement and campaign. He was married in 1847 in Carlisle England, to Miss Elizabeth Smith. She died four years ago and Mr. Henney after her death, went to live with his daughter in West Superior. He remained there three years and a year ago returned to Dubuque. He is survived by five children, Mrs. J. A. Monger, of West Superior, Wis., and George, Clark, Frank and John of Dubuque. Mr. Henney was a tin worker and in his days of vigor was a high grade workman. He was the first man to introduce the metal cornice in Dubuque and some of those he first put up are still in use. He is a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and had been an active member there ever since his coming to Dubuque.

The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at three o’clock from the residence of his old friend, William Marshall, 1859 Bluff Street, to St. John’s Church friends are invited to review the remains at Wm. Marshall's residence from 2 to 5 this afternoon and 3 to 12 Monday morning. The Masons of which the deceased was a member for 36 years, will have charge of the funeral. The interment will be at Linwood.
