Louis A. Friedman was born at Luxemburg, Iowa, 1870. Shortly before 1900, he came to Dyersville selling pianos and sewing machines. In 1900 he married Lane Holscher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Holscher in St. Francis Church, Dyersville. On March 26, 1900 he was elected mayor. Also in this year he went into the hardware business in partnership with his brother-in-law, Jacob Reiff at the present Koelker Implement location. In 1902 he entered partnership with Charles Roth in the drug business, the present location of Brueckner Drug. In 1906, he moved west to Tonopah, Nevada and Lovestock.

A few years previous to his death he was elected Senator of Nevada an office he held until the time of his death, June 23, 1932. His wife preceded him in 1931. Both are buried in St. Francis Cemetery on the Henry Holscher family lot. There were no children. He was the brother of Sisters Anna and Concordia Friedman, LaCrosse Order, Mrs. C. J. Ungs, Mrs. Joseph Theisen, Luxemburg, Mrs. Lena Pottebaum, Orient, S.D., Mrs. Louise Froehle, Cold Springs, Minn. One sister, Mrs. Catherine Pottebaum and a brother, Rev. J. S. Friedman preceded him in death.
