John A. Casutt, son of George Casutt, the wholesale liquor dealer at 265 Main Street, lies in critical condition at Mercy Hospital as the result of a bullet wound in his right side. About 1 o’clock this afternoon, Mr. Casutt Sr. left the store in charge of his son and went upstairs for dinner. About fifteen minutes later he heard the report of a revolver and hurried downstairs, found the young man lying on the floor in the rear of the room. A stream of blood was issuing from an ugly wound in his right side, where the shot took effect. Dr. Guthrie was summoned and making a hurried examination of the wound, order Casutt removed to Mercy Hospital where an effort will be made to extract the bullet.

It is thought that the shooting was purely accidental as the young man was in good health and never made any intimation of taking his own life. The most plausible explanation of the shooting is, that Casutt was cleaning a revolver that he brought home with him from the Philippine Islands after serving two years in the army. When the physician arrived Casutt was still conscious and did not become unconscious up to the time he was removed to the hospital.
