Burglars broke onto the residence of Ehrhardt Bernhardt sometime during the night at Sherrill’s Mound, ten miles north of the city, where they broke open a small safe and secured over $200 in cash and made their escape. The deed was committed between the hours of 12 o’clock and morning. The thieves entered the rear of the house and found no trouble in breaking open the safe which is a small and insecure affair which offered little resistance. The residence is over the saloon in the old Peter Fries building and the family did not even hear the burglars.

Mr. Bernhardt notified Sheriff Conlin this morning of the robbery, and stated at the time that he had a clue to the perpetrators. He also asked the sheriff to send out an officer and assist in getting the robbers if possible and Bailiffs McCabe and Hoffman started out just before noon but up to the hour of going to press they had not been heard from, although the sheriff’s office made several efforts to reach them by telephone.
