Father’s Loaded Revolver When
It Was Discharged

While engaged at play this morning while in their home, 341 Twelfth Street, Milton Siebel was accidentally shot by his 16 year old brother. The bullet struck the youth in the shoulder blade and passed out without touching any vital places. A surgeon dressed the wound and stated that no serious developments will follow.

The shooting took place during the momentary absence of the children’s mother. There were three children playing around the house and the oldest, knowing that there was a revolver locked up in a stand drawer, succeeded in getting it out. The curiosity of the others was aroused by the bright weapon, and the three started to examine its parts closely. One was looking at the name of the manufacture and another sought the number of the weapon. In the midst of their investigation the weapon discharged, and a loud cry told that Milton, the youngest boy was shot.

The shooting occurred when the streets outside were crowded with busy marketers and the gun’s report almost caused a panic. Some thought that a terrible tragedy had been consummated: others were of the opinion that it was a suicide. A dozen persons clambered up the stairs to the second floor and crowded into a room whence the pistols report came. A moment later came Mrs. Seibel, the mother of the boys. She was almost frantic with fear and excitement until the surgeon assured her there was no reason for alarm.

Mrs. Seibel was loath to give the newspapers the facts of the shooting lest her husband Edward L. Seibel who is a traveling salesman for the Fox Cutlery Company, should see copies of them and become alarmed, hasten home.
