Hoar and Murphy, Embalmers and Undertakers.

This is the name of the new firm announced today. The members of it are Messrs. J. J. Hoar and Joseph J. Murphy, both of whom are so well and known in this city that words of introduction in their behalf seem almost out of place.

Mr. Hoar, the senior member was born and reared in Dubuque. For the past sixteen years he has been prominently connected with the undertaking profession and he is now looked upon as being the most expert embalmer in the city. On many occasion when there have been difficult cases where other local undertakers would not attempt to prepare for burial, his services have been appealed to and in every instance he has performed the work in a most satisfactory manner. Being thus looked upon as the peer of local embalmers, Mr. Hoar is prepared to hang out his shingle and enter the lists for himself. Nor was it without a struggle that he has achieved such a high place in the ranks of his profession. It was only dint of perservence, years of hard study and practice that he attained it. It cannot be said of John Hoar, as can be said of so many others in the profession, that, he possesses a knowledge of the theory only. His long years of practice of it self contradicts the statement and shows that he is? a knowledge of practical and theoretical - the two qualifications that go to make up a competent embalmer.

Mr. Murphy, the junior member, is a son of Mr. John S. Murphy and is one of the most popular men in this city. Having fulfilled the duties of assistant city assessor under Assessors Duncan and Zernecke for two years he has reappointed last week by City Assessor Scherr for another term - a fact that speaks eloquently in his favor of his competency and general worth. While not an embalmer Mr. Murphy will devote much of his attention to the up-building of the business.

The new firm has opened up parlors at the corner of Locust and Seventh streets, where a fine stock of caskets, etc. have been put in.
