John Carl Jungk, born August, 1877, enlisted 26. April 1898, in the 49th Iowa Volunteer Infantry, Company A. He mustered out at Savannah, Georgia, 13. May, 1899.

John Carl was Dubuque's last surviving veteran of the Spanish American War. For many years, he owned and operated the Jungk bakery and later worked as a government meat inspector at the Dubuque Packing Company.
