Conrad Miehe, who was also a native of Hanover. Conrad was a shoemaker by trade and with his family emigrated to America during the year of 1848, locating in Dubuque County, Iowa. He started with only #800 of German money and out of this had to pay the passage of five persons. With the remainder he made a payment on one hundred and twenty acres of land in Dubuque County, and with his sons began the development of the farm. This was covered with a heavy growth of timber, which he cleared by burning, and then the land was plowed. Acre after acre was placed under cultivation and at last abundant harvests were gathered as the fruits of his toil and labor.
