Mr. Isaac McGee 1855-1936

Mr. Isaac McGee was born in Iowa Township on August 19, 1855. He was the fifth of eight children born to James and Martha McGee. Isaac was educated at home and in public schools. His mother an avid reader, believed greatly in education.

In 1885, Isaac married Minnie E. Van Ostrand. Minnie E. was the daughter of George and Georgianna Stewart Van Ostrand of New York. She was born February 1, 1865 and had come with her parents to Nebraska. Mrs. Minnie McGee died October 21, 1895 and is buried at the McGee Cemetery-Bethel.

Isaac and Minnie had three children, George L., farmed in Dodge Township; Milo J. of Wayne, Nebraska; and Cora Belle who taught school near Wayne, Nebraska.

In 1894, Isaac married a second time. Mrs. Ada Glew was the widow of John Glew of Dubuque and the daughter of Francis Marion (1837-1929) and Sara (1836-1927) Kephart Allen, who were also old settlers of Iowa. The Allen’s also moved to Farley.

Ada Glew McGee was born February 5, 1861. She had a daughter by her first marriage – Addie (Mrs. Bert Snodgrass). Isaac and Ada had four children, Nancy W.; Gladys Sara; Henry F.; and Mary J.

Isaac did dairy farming until 1908 when they moved to town to retire. He was many times town supervisor and spent much time on the school board.

Isaac McGee died in 1936. Ada died in 1946. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.
