George Waterhouse 1840-1909

George Waterhouse was born in London, Nov. 30, 1840. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Massey Waterhouse, who came to this country when George was twelve, locating in Dubuque. About 1886, the family moved to Hazel Valley. George married in 1862 to Miss Mary A. Armstrong. They had seven children and began farming first in Hazel Valley where their children were born, and later west of Farley. George and Mary moved into town when their family was grown. George Waterhouse was active on the school board and was particularly known for organizing and training several coronet bands in town. Mr. Waterhouse died June 13, 1909. The funeral was from the Presbyterian Church to Fairview Cemetery. The Waterhouse children were:
William, born in 1861, died in Dec. 1928, at age 67. Buried in Oakland, Calif.

Joseph A., married Abbie Ida Bryant in Feb. 1901, Abbie (1879-1962) was the daughter of Frank Bryant, they lived in Colorado and Idaho.

Dr. George W., born Jan. 9, 1870. Educated in Farley. Studied medicine at the Univ. of Iowa. Married in Mapleton, Iowa where he resided. Died of a stroke in 1923. Burial was at Sioux City, Iowa.

Dr. David A., born in 1872. Was on the Farley town council from 1902-1903. Later lived in Charter Oak, Iowa. Died in 1949 and was buried at Fairview.

Dr. James E., born March 18, 1878. Married Alice Bergh of Dyersville on Dec. 19, 1905 at Evanston, Ill. Graduated Illinois University of Dentistry in 1909. Lived in Chicago. Died at the home of his daughter at age 59 in 1937. Burial was at Sioux City, Iowa.

Madge, born in 1888, was a teacher in Farley, buried at Fairview.

Alice married Charles Freeman. Lived in Burley, Idaho.
