Dubuque Herald, Jan. 1, 1863

DESERTED FROM CAMP FRANKLIN ON OR about the 20th of November, from Capt Bryne's Company, 42d Iowa Volunteers, THOMAS CUMMINGS, born in County Armagh, Ireland aged nineteen years, and by occupation a farmer. description as follow: Blue eyes, light hair, dark complexion, and 5 feet 5 ½ inches high. He enlisted at Iowa City on the 20th of August, 1862. Any civil or military officer in the United States is ordered to arrest said Thomas Cummings, and report him to me, for which they will receive the lawful fee.
