FIRE – There was an alarm of fire Tuesday, which ? from a fire which broke out in the house of Mrs. Marsh at the head of Julien Avenue. The engine went part of the way up the hill but turned back finding it too hard.

The fire caught in a partition from the furnace but for the timely assistance of neighbors who succeeded in subduing the flames by means of buckets of water, the house would have been burned. As it was it resulted in damaging the furniture to the amount of about $100.

Mrs. Marsh had a narrow escape from a terrible injury and perhaps death itself. She threw a pail of water on the hot furnace, when it was instantly converted into steam, and was thrown back upon her, burning her in a very serious manner, enough to confine her to the bed. The building is one of the finest in Dubuque and we are glad it received no greater injury.
