The Democratic Herald – Sept. 5, 1865

CHICKEN HUNTERS – A party of hunters consisting of Messrs. Caffall, Booth, Howard, Heyne, and Wunderlich returned last Friday from a seven days’ chicken hunt, ten miles west of Worthington. They were not very successful, having killed only 200 birds, but they had a good enough time to make up for the deficiency. The excessively warm weather spoiled a goof many birds on their hands, yet the hunters enjoyed themselves hugely, and managed to keep cool. Booth was chosen chief “cuisine” for the party, and made himself famous for the good dinners he prepared. Chickens were served up in all manner of dishes and the party will long remember it as a pleasant occasion.
