Dubuque Democratic Herald – Feb. 2, 1865

GRAIN AT DUNLEITH – It is said that there is $1,000,000 worth of grain in Dunleith waiting shipment, most of it in sack lying outdoors exposed to the rain storm. Some of Dubuque’s owners of a part of the grain were engaged in placing planks and timber under a part of it to keep it partly out of the water. This is one of the accidents of business incident to the usual freight blockage. Oh no, of course Dubuque don’t want any other railroad to Lake Michigan except the I. C. R. R. – no not much.
