Dubuque Democratic Herald – Dec. 1, 1864
Stabbing Affray – On Monday of this week, in Washington Township, a man named Sterling stabbed the Constable, Mr. James Simpson, inflicting a dangerous wound in the abdomen. It seems that an execution was issued against the property of the man Sterling, and the officer was proceeding to make a levy, which was the cause of the difficulty and terminated as stated above. Mr. Simpson is not dangerously injured, we are informed, and will undoubtedly recover. Sterling is now in jail awaiting his trial.
