Some four weeks ago Mr. Austin Adams od Dubuque, had a Republican meeting called at Zwingle, Washington Township, and when he came to address it, there was not a single man there, so he left word that on Saturday he would be there to address them, and also that he would like to meet the Democrats in joint discussion, but nothing was said to the Democrats in reference to it until the day before (this section lost) meeting, and of course no arrangement had been made.

When the time came, however, a large audience had gathered, and Mr. Lyon and Mrs. Adams of Dubuque, addressed the meeting. After they were through loud calls were made for Mr. Daniel Cort, who immediately arose and gave Mr. Lyon and Mr. Adams and Abolition party such a complete scoring that the abolitionists could not stand it any longer, when they, true to the principals, rose up and broke the meeting up in a row.

A call was made for three cheers for McClellan and three for Cort, which were given with a good will by at least three-fourths of the whole audience, and not a single cheer for Lincoln or Lyons or Adams. It proved to be a complete Democratic victory.
