The Paper Mill Enterprise
~
Some time ago we gave notice of the probable erection of a paper mill in or near Dubuque County by a few of our enterprising citizens. We are now glad to learn that the machinery has now been purchased and is on its way here, and that a site is near definitely concluded on a convenient distance from Dubuque, to which city it may fairly be deemed tributary. In fact, the enterprise is a Dubuque enterprise, and will not a little contribute to its advantage and importance as a manufacturing city and section. The parties are well known as enterprising and energetic, Mr. Mullaly, one of them being a successful builder in Dubuque for quite a number of years. Mr. Hutchins, the other, formerly the proprietor of this paper, now happily relieved from political complications and engaged in an undertaking in which we have every reason to think will prove remunerative one. We learn from them that they hope to have the mill in operation by the last of not the first of August. As stated above, the machinery is on its way, the building material is bought, the workmen engaged, and everything ready to strike the first blow, which they hope to do next week. Mr. W. Curtis, for a long number of years connected with different mills in the east, has also an interest in the enterprise and is busily at work on the plans, &c. In fact, we may look upon the thing as a fixed fact. This, added to the extensive and rapidly extending works of Mial Mason, and the increased business of many of our other manufacturers, will tend more to the advancement of Dubuque than any other kind or character of enterprise. It is solid.
