RECEPTION OF GEN. HERRON

Last evening Gen. Herron arrived on the train from the south, having left St. Louis Friday evening. He was met at Dunleith by a committee appointed for the purpose, and came over on the ferry boat to this side.

On arrival of the boat at the levees, he was received by Governor’s Greys, Union Leaguers, and a small number of citizen who gathered there. The procession was then formed under the direction of Marshal Harrison, and proceeded uptown in the following order:

ORDER OF PROCESSION
Capt. J. M. Harrison, Marshal
Aids; C. J. Cumings, Lieut. D.B. Henderson
Germania Band
Governor’s Greys
Union Leaguers
Committee of Reception with Mr. Harrison
Members of the Common Council in Carriages
Citizens

Upon arriving at the corner of Main and 8th Street, the procession was halted, the troops formed in two lines on either side of the street, and D. M. Cooley arose and delivered a welcome speech, to which Gen. Herron briefly replied, thanking them for the reception and briefly alluding to some of those who had gone to the war from this city.

After this the procession was reformed and proceeded up Main Street a short distance, when the Governor’s Greys and the Germania Band escorted him to the hotel.

The whole affair was very tame and spiritless, eliciting no enthusiasm and drawing out but a small crowd. It is said that a public dinner or supper is to be tendered him during the week
