Suffocated By Gas
~
Mr. M. H. McCloskey, with his two sons, Robert and Hugh, and a partner in the employ, narrowly escaped death by suffocation this morning. While engaged in painting the New St. Mary’s Academy, on Emmett Street, below Second, the gas from a coke furnace used for drying purposes impregnated the air of the room as to render them almost insensible. They all rushed out into the open air, with the exception of Mr. McCloskey, who was entirely overcome. His son went to his rescue and found him prostrate on the floor, and with some difficulty dragged him out. Being quite weak, the men were taken to their homes, but are now almost entirely recovered. It was a close call to a horrible death.
