Dubuque Herald –Jan. 4, 1878

An attempt was made to fire the residence of Mr. C. Weinzierl, 516 Clay Street, Tuesday night while the gentlemen was at the Opera House. The windows of the upper chambers are left open all day. Someone bent upon crime entered the room at the rear of the house, after climbing upon the roof of the kitchen, and set fire to two dresses of Mrs. Weinzierl which were suspended on the wall near a drum heated by a stove in the parlor below. When Mr. W. got home he scented the burning fabric and quickly ascertained its cause. Beside the two dresses, a clock shelf was also consumed. The fire, fortunately, was extinguished before it did more damage.
