Dubuque Herald, Jan. 6, 1866

NEW LUMBER YARD - We notice that a new lumber yard is being started on the corner of White and 6th Street, by Patrick and James Mehan, who are well acquainted with the business, having been for years in Wisconsin and also in Canada in the lumber trade. The lumber they are stocking their yard with was sawed at Lumbert’s Mill, and is of excellent quality. We saw two boards of clear pine, one of which is 27 and the other 37 inches. There are now eleven firms engaged in the lumber business in this city, composed of the following persons, Waples & Lumber, P. Robb, Clark & Scott, Buxton, McCullough & Co., Stout & Co., G. Edwards & Co., Mehan & Bros., S. Turck & Co., Todd, Gorton & Co., J. M. Robinson, and Phelan & Randall. In Chicago there are eight firms in the business which is less in proportion than there is here.
