SAD ACCIDENT
~
Willie, son of Martin Hayes, living adjacent to the American House, had his hand so badly militated about 5 o’clock on New Year’s Day, by the accidental discharge of a pistol, that amputation of his thumb and forefinger was rendered necessary. The accident occurred in a scuffle. Willie Hayes had the pistol in his hands, and it was discharged while a boy named Johnny Tobin was trying to take it away from him. As the mother of the wounded boy was away from home when the accident occurred, it was an hour or two before the wound was dressed by a surgeon, during which time the little fellow endured much agony. Boys should be careful how they handle firearms.
