Heavy Damage – Monsieur Guerin is an eccentric individual, well known to every Dubuquer, and between perfecting arrangements for his flying machine and watching encroachments on his property, has a lively time of it. Ever since the harbor company took possession of his grounds he has been in trouble, but it was nothing compared to that caused by the railroad company running a track near his house. Every time a train passes his residence he chalks down $2, with the intention of bringing a heavy suit against the company some of these days for damages. He says the land conceded to him by the government, which right is sacred, and not to be violated by civil law. He intended to employ the Hon. E. Bates of St. Louis as his attorney in the case, but the death of that learned lawyer has somewhat “knocked” his plans, and he is now looking about for the next shining light in the legal world. The charges against the railroad company now foot up $5,000, which he is sure of obtaining ere he dies.
