Three young men all born in Dubuque, educated in the parochial schools and graduates of Dubuque colleges, will be ordained to the holy priesthood during the week and will celebrate their first masses in the city. Michael p. Early and John Bowen, who made their studies in theology at the Supician seminary in Montreal, will be ordained there and will return to the city early in the week.

Says His First Mass

Father Bowen, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Bowen, will celebrate his first mass in the parish church, St. Patrick’s, on Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock. Father J. J. Hanley, the pastor, will serve as assistant priest, Father John McCaffrey will be deacon, Father Early sub-deacon and Father Eickel master of ceremonies. The sermon will be preached by Father Gorman, the president of the institution where the young clerics made their collegiate studies. A procession of the priests will form at the rectory and march to the church. A large number of the city clergy and priests from nearby cities will be present at the mass. A dinner will be served at the rectory of St. Patrick’s in honor of Father Bowen and the guests will include all who have participated in the ceremonies.

At Sacred Heart Church

Father Schuh, who completed his theological studies at St. Francis seminary in Milwaukee, will be ordained Monday morning at 9 o’clock at the Sacred Heart Church. Archbishop Keane to administer the sacrament of Holy order. A number of local priests will assist at the solemn service. He will celebrate his first mass on Christmas morning at the Holy Ghost Church at 10 o’clock.

Father Schuh is a son of Mrs. Angeline Schuh of this city and was educated in Sacred Hear parochial school. When the Sacred Heart parish was subdivided and the parish of the Holy Ghost organized Father Schuh became a member of the latter church. So his ordination will take place at Sacred Heart and his first mass will be celebrated at the Holy Ghost church.

At the Cathedral

Father Michael Early, the only son of Mrs. Joseph P. Early, was educated at St. Raphael’s school and will celebrate his first mass in the Cathedral in which he was baptized. Father Early’s first mass will be celebrated at 10:30 o’clock on Christmas morning and Father Bowen and other local priest will assist in the ceremonies. A special musical program will be given under the direction of Father Dress.
The collection of the three well known young men is of much interest to their many friends here. Their progress had been the source of pleasure to many and now the elevation to priesthood causes rejoicing to their relatives and interested friends.
