HURT IN A RUNAWAY
~
JOSEPH GLYNN, A HACK DRIVER,
SERIOUSLY INJURED
~
One of Brynes Bros. Team, Which Glynn
Was Driving, Ran Away on Iowa Street
Yesterday Afternoon, Throwing Him
Out – His Head Hits the Curb
With Crushing Force
~
As a result of a run away on Iowa Street at 1:30 o’clock yesterday afternoon, Joseph Glynn, a driver employed by Bryne Bros., lies at Mercy Hospital in serious condition.

Glynn was driving a carriage up Iowa Street and when at Eighth Street the horses became frightened and started off a t a rapid rate of speed. Glynn used every means to check their mad flight but was unable to do so. At Tenth Street, the horses crossed the street and ran into the gutter. Glynn was thrown from the seat and alighted on the curbstone. His head struck the curbstone and rendered him unconscious. Bystanders hastened to his assistance and picked him up. He was placed in a carriage and removed to Mercy Hospital where it was discovered that he had suffered three severe scalp wounds in addition to a gash in his forehead. His left eye was almost completely torn from the socket and he presented a pitiable appearance. Physicians were summoned and after his wounds were dressed the patient regained consciousness and rested earlier. The attending physician stated last night that his chances of recovery were good. Glynn is a man of middle age and unmarried.
