Sunday Was “Faber” Day at Cascade

The town of Cascade certainly did things in honor of Red Urban Faber star twirler of the Chicago White Sox ball team. Fully seven thousand admirers of the hero gathered to share in the celebration of the home coming of the hero, and the fact that he was to be seen in the pitcher’s box with the Cascade team in a game with the Dubuque White Sox added some strength to the card and for miles around fans assembled to see the contest. A goodly number from this city were present and they tell us that the battle was a royal one, Cascade finally winning 3 to 2. Faber could not extend but about half length on account of the catcher being unable to hold him, but it could be clearly seen that the stuff that made Ty Cobb lay down his bat was up Red’s sleeve all right, even if he was afraid to turn it loose.

It was doubtless the biggest day in Cascade’s history and from all accounts it was a day that Faber and his admirers will long remember. Bill Cundill and O. McCaffrey were among those from here who were in attendance and the former took several views of the days doings, while Mac looked about the grounds and in his mind’s eye looked back twenty years when he drove the first automobile ever within the city limits of Cascade, while stretched out before him there were now parked a million and a quarter dollars worth of cars in plain view, there in honor of Red Faber, who a score of years ago was a little red-head chap playing one-old-cat with the kids.
