Thomas McCraney served in the 1812 war in Capt. Samuel Ingersoll’s Co. 7th Reg’t New York State Artillery He was on Company Pay Roll in Oct. 1813 and was locate in Nov 1813 at Fort Geroge Upper Canada.
Susan Ann Slayton b/1792 Hartland, Widsor VT daughter of Thomas Slayton and Susannah Dake married Thomas McCraney b/1791/Newburg, Delaware Co. NY son of William and Sarah McCraney on 2/6/1814 in Oak Orchard, Orleans Co., NY
Thomas McCraney and Susanna Slayton had Fernando Mack b/11/7/1816 NY, Milton 10/12/1818 NY, Sophronia 11/2/1820 NY (Herd) John 8/16/1824 NY, Orlando 9/22/1825 IL, William 12/25/1830 WI, Susan Ann 1/10/1833 IA, Thomas Jr. 7/22/1837 IA.
When the Territory of Wisconsin was organized (1833) the members of the council or senate elected for the first session and to represent that portion of Wisconsin west of the Mississippi were John Foley, Thomas McCraney and Thomas McKnight.

And now at this day comes the said Petioner by his Soliciter Davis Crawford and the process in this cause having been returned Served and the said defendant being solemnly called, came not but herein makes default by not appearing to the satisfaction of the court from the testimony that the allegations and charges in the said Petitioners Petition are true. There upon it is Ordered and Decreed by the court thence that the bonds of Mattrimony heretofore esisting between Thomas McCrany and Susan McCrany is hereby discharged from the same and that from this day, he be at liberty to contract and be contracted, within as full and ample a manner as he could have done had said Marriage contract never existed.Thomas McCraney married the widow of Dr. Allen Hill, Mary Ann Harwood Hill on 10/20/1844 in Dubuque Co. Iowa.
Thomas & Mary Ann McCraney had Harriett 1848 died 1894/IA, Frank 1852 died 1856/IA, Read 1855/IA no idea when he died.
Died- In this city on the 21st inst in the 60th year of his age, Tomas McCraney Esq., leaving a wife and children to mourn the loss of one of the best of husbands and one of the kindest and indulgent of Fathers. Mr. McCraney was widely known in the State of Iowa having been a rsident of Dubuque since 1832 until his late removal to Clayton County. He built the first house ever erected in the now city of Dubuque and settled the first white family on this side of the river above Keokuk. He frequently occupied places of honor and trust by the choice of the peole, and discharged the duties of the same with credit to himself and to the satisfaction of his constituents. He was a member of the first general assembly of the Territory of Wisconsin in which Iowa was then included and was elected one of the delegates to form our State Constitution. And in all his public life was ever the friend of the people and a warm advocate for their rights and liberties. He is regretted by a large circle of friends. And especially the old residents of Dubuque offer their sympathies and condolence to the bereaved family in this their hour of trial in Delaware County N.Y. where many of his relatives live.
12/11/1855 Susan McCraney, first wife of Thomas McCraney filed suit against the estate of Thomas McCraney naming Mary Ann McCraney as defendant. Susan declared that the above divorce was fradudlent and should be set aside. And that Susan should be entitled to 1/3 of the Estate. The result of this decree read in part that: it would allow Said complaintent to recover as aforesaid- It is further ordered adjudged and decree by the Court that the Said Complainant is fully entitled to and that She have and recover dower in all the real Estate whereof the Said Thomas McCraney died Seized of and interest either in law or in Equity: and that one third of Said real Estate be set apart to her for the term of her natural life; and that she have absolutely one third of the personal Estate of which Said Thomas died seized and that an account of the Said Estate real or personal shall be taken and George Nightingale is hereby appointed a master in Chancery to make out a full true, accurate and & perfect account of the real & person Estate of which Said Thomas McCraney died Seized of possession. And that the Complainant recover of defendant her costs.

Died-At the residence of her son John McCraney, in McGregor, Feb. 9, 1868, Mrs. Susan McCraney, in the 71st year of her age. The deceased was the mother of Orlando, John and Thomas McCraney. We had known her for nearly 20 years and record the above with sorrow. She was respected and loved by all who knew her. Though domestic troubles were many and heavy upon her, she bore them with a Christian fortitude.
