OBITUARY OF THOMAS PEGDON, FORMER RESIDENT
Thomas Richard Pegdon was born in England, August 24, 1831, and died at the Old Solders Home at Marshalltown, Iowa, July 6, 1933, aged 91 years, 10 months, 13 days. He came with his parents to New York state when three years of age. Was married to Mrs. Catherine Seigel West in 1859. Enlisted in the Civil War from Oswego county, New York, August 11, 1862., and served three years as a member of the 110th Regiment, being honorably discharged September 2, 1865. Came with his wife and three stepchildren to Winnishiek county in 1866 and to Dickinson county in 1860, and homesteaded what is now the G. R. Frost place. After leaving the farm they lived for a time at Okoboji, later moving to Milford, where they made their home with Mrs. Rose West. In January, 1921, he went to the Old Soldiers Home at Marshalltown.
Mrs. Pegdon died in 1910; one stepson, Charles West, in 1908, and the stepdaughter, Mrs. Etta Mead, in 1921. He leaves one brother, Stephen Pegdon, living at Syracuse, N. Y.; one stepson, John, and family, of Spirit Lake, and Mrs. Rose West and family, of Council Bluffs.
Funeral Services were held at Congregational church at Milford, July 8th, in charge of Rev. W. H. Kent and the American Legion. Interment in the family lot at Arnolds Park.
