Antone George 1830-1918

Death visits another home in Milford and this time takes Antone George, at the ripe old age of almost 87 years. He was a man very much loved and respected by all who knew him, and he had a large acquaintance having lived in this immediate vicinity since 1880. For several years he has been making his home with his son, J. M. George of this place. The immediate cause of death was old age.

Antone George was born in Granbinde, Switzerland, January 17th, 1830 and was 87 years and 11 months old at the time of his death. He was married in 1851 to Miss Verona Weisdonner at Granbinde, Switzerland. In 1852 he with his wife and oldest child, Barbara, emigrated to America living at Hartford, Wisconsin, until 1880 when they moved to Milford where he has resided until the time of his death. His wife died May 1, 1910. Since which time he has made his home with his son J. M. George. Mr. George was a member of Waller Post No. 223 G. A. R., having enlisted in the Volunteer Infantry service at Madison, Wisconsin, in the 45th Wisconsin Regiment Company A. He is survived by his nine children, Barbara C. George of Downey, Iowa; Mrs. John King, of Downey, Iowa; Mrs. J. E. Selby of West Branch, Iowa; Mrs. R. B. Prien of Rockford, Illinois; Mrs. G. W. Fraverse, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; A. George, Jr., of Lyle, Minnesota; J. M. George of Milford; and W. H. George of Peoria, Illinois.

On Sunday morning at 1:45 Antone George passed away at the age of 86 years and eleven months. Mr. George was born in Switzerland, January 17, 1830, was married to Miss Verona Visedonner in 1854, and came to America in 1855. Nine children were born to this union, Miss Barbara, Mrs. G. W. Garnerst of Milwaukee; Mrs. R. B. Prien Rockford, Illinois; Mrs. J. E. Selby, West Branch, Iowa; Mrs. John King, Downing, Iowa; Antone Jr., Lyle, Minnesota; J. M. of Milford; Will H. of Peoria, Illinois; A. B. of Aberdeen, South Dakota. Since his wife's death several years ago he has made his home with his son J. M. in Old Milford, where he passed away as stated above. Funeral services were held on Wednesday and interment made in Milford cemetery.
