Daryl LeRoy Whitney

Services for Daryl LeRoy Whitney, 59, Milford, were Wednesday, July 5, 1989, at Union Memorial Church, Milford. Rev. Leonard Root officiated. Organist was Gerry Sternberg and Wendell Williams was soloist.

Pall bearers were Jim Murray, Doug Ricke, Marvin Simonson, Steve Titterington, Tim Titterington, and Mike Willison. Honorary bearers were Rex Erickson, Alex Jones, Clark Marshall, Ken Schroeder, Paul Wharton, and Brian Whitney.

Mr. Whitney died Sunday, July 2, of cancer at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Spirit Lake. He was born Feb. 3,1930 to Charles and Lily Whitney in Sibley. The family moved to Excelsior Township when Daryl was 12. He graduated from Excelsior in 1948. In 1959, after serving in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955, he received his degree in agriculture business from Iowa State University.

He married Marcia Titterington Oct. 10, 1951 and were the parents of four children. They farmed and were in the restaurant business. He was a member of the Union Memorial Church, Milford and the Gloaming Lodge 482. His enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, fishing, flowers, and horses.

Survivors include his wife Marcia; their children, Teresa Whitney Jackson and her husband Steve, Waterloo; Dr. David Daniel Whitney and his wife Lorraine, Barrington, 111.; Rebecca Coila Brown and her husband Greg, Des Moines; and Mary Kay Whitney, Milford; six grandchildren Kate, Kelly and Whitney Jackson; Christina Brown; and Lauren and Daniel Jeppeson Whitney; two brothers, Charles and Duane, both of Milford; and five sisters, Hazel Eichman, Indianola; Eileen Winkel, Spirit Lake; Margaret Knapp, El Monte, Calif.; Lillian Gaster, Ankeny; and June Burke, Storm Lake.

He was preceded in death by his his parents and sister, Lucille Snetheen.

Burial was in Milford Cemetery, Milford. Turner Funeral Home, Milford was om charge of arrangements.
