Coila Titterington

Services for Coila M. Titterington, 81, West Okoboji, were 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 1989, at the Union Memorial Church, Milford. Rev. Leonard Root officiated. Gerry Sternberg was organist and Marvin Anderson, Jack Jones, Curt Jass and Rev. John Petersen sang 'This Is My Father's World," and "Precious Lord." Rev. John Petersen also sang "The Lord's Prayer." Pall bearers were Steve Titterington, Dan Whitney, Tim Titterington, Steve Jackson, Mike Thu and Greg Brown.

Mrs. Titterington died Wednesday, March 22 at the Milford Nursing Center.

She was born Aug. 19, 1907 at Milford to Daniel and Effie (Ulrich) Jeppeson. She graduated from Milford Public School. She married Vern Titterington July 1,1925 at Milford. She spent her entire life in the Arnolds Park and West Okoboji areas and owned and operated the Vern & Coila's Supper Club. She was a member of the Methodist faith.

Vern and Coila Titterington opened their first grocery store in 1938, selling pan-fried chicken and home-made pies. As the business grew, they built at the present location in 1946. Following the unexpected death of Vern in 1948 Mrs. Titterington, with her family's help, operated the new business. She suffered a stroke in December 1978, but maintained an active interest in the business.

Survivors include a son, Howard and his wife Roseana, Milford; one daughter, Marcia and her husband Daryl Whitney, Milford; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three sisters. Burial was in the Milford Cemetery, Milford. Turner Funeral Home
