AN IOWA HOME OF SORROW
From the Webster City FREEMAN

Those of the old settlers of Hamilton county who were acquainted with HENRY BARKMAN, of Spirit Lake, whose sudden death some two years ago was chronicled in these columns, will learn with sincere sorrow of the death of three of his children - Henry, aged 15; Charlie, aged 10, and Lulu, aged 4 - which took place respectively on the 3d and 7th of last month. They all died of diptheria. The Spirit Lake BEACON, in speaking of the death of these children says: This sad, brief record tells how much of light and joy was taken from the life of a devoted mother, sadly widowed less than two years ago. It tells of a home bereaved of its cherished idols at almost a single stroke. It tells of the loss to the world of three bright children, who, had they been permitted to reach manhood and womanhood, and to fulfill the fair promise of their youth, would have brought to society rare grace and merit. While the blow falls heaviest on Mrs. Barkman, who is now on the shady side of life, it is scarcely less keenly felt by the three loving sisters, all older than the children who have departed. These, with a son some seven years of age, are spared to comfort the dear mother and to fill with greater love and tenderness the void left in her aching heart.
