Funeral services were held for Elenore A. Lemke, 72, of Spirit Lake, on August 13, 1996, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake, with Rev. Phill Andreason officiating. Music was provided by Ann Bass, organist. The congregation sang "For All The Saints, A Mighty Fortress."
Interment was at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Mrs. Lemke was born on November 4, 1923, in Bremer County, Iowa, to Ernest and Mathilda (Eickelberg) Vogel. She graduated from Readlyn (IA) High School and Concordia College of River Forest, Chicago, Illinois. She took additional courses at Alexandria (MN) Technical College.
Elenore was united in marriage to Robert Lemke on September 14, 1947, at Camp Okoboji in Milford, Iowa. They lived in Alexandria, MN, for 10 years, Osakis, MN, for 5 years, and Seward, NE, for 23 years before moving to Spirit Lake in 1990. In addition to caring for her family, Elenore was busy with a variety of jobs and activities during her life, including management, along with her husband, of a fishing resort in Osakis, MN; management of medical offices in Alexandria, MN and Seward, NE; and ownership of the Maid-Rite coffee shop in Alexandria. Presently, she was parttime receptionist at Camp Okoboji and active m B.A.S.S. of the Spirit Lake Community Schools.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, Immanuel Lutheran Church of Spirit Lake, LWML at Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Hour Ministries.
Elenore died August 8 at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls of an apparent stroke.
Surviving are her husband, Robert; two sons: John Lemke and his wife, d'Ann Meyers of Minnetonka, MN, and Mark Lemke of Australia; one sister, Arleen Christian and her husband, Robert of Seattle, Washington; sister-in-law, Helen Lemke of Paullina, and sister in-law, Eleanor Lemke of Lake Park, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Vogel; brother-in-law Richard Lemke and brother-in-law Rev. Paul Lemke.
Memorials may be sent to Lutheran Hour, Zion Lutheran School and Camp Okoboji.
