Paul began his business career operating grocery stores in Spencer, and then in Sioux Rapids. Eventually, he took over day-to-day operation of Ranco Fertiservice after the two other founders were killed in a small plane crash at the Spencer Municipal Airport. Paul was a member of the Four Nubbins barbershop quartet, which was organized by his brother, Harold, in 1947. The quartet became nationally acclaimed, winning several awards, including the Central States Championship in 1966. They were also invited to USO tours to the Far East and Cuba. They entertained audiences in 40 states for 28 years.
Paul passed away at home on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Thelma, his brother, Harold Krile, and his wife, Shirley.
