J. H. GRADY DIES WEDNESDAY
Joseph Henry Grady, the third of four children of Charles and Sarah Hill Grady, was born at Hillsboro, Highland County, Ohio, on Aug. 31, 1853. For several years he has been in failing health, and on July 17, 1940, he passed away at his home in Harris at the age of 86 years. 10 months and 17 days.

When he was 16 years of age, he came to Newton, Iowa, where he lived for several years. He next moved to Viola Center, Audubon County, Iowa, where he was united in marriage to Sarah F. Yager on Nov. 21, 1878. They farmed in that community for 24 years and in 1901 they moved to Osceola County where they have since resided.To this union, four children were born: Mamie E., Albert C., Raymond L., and William C. In his younger days when he was able to do so, he was always active in educational and community affairs and strived to make the communities better because he had lived there.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his faithful and devoted wife; one daughter Mrs. Mamie Maher, and one son William C. Grady, both of Harris; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Methodist Church at Harris, with Rev. A. J. Barkley officiating. Request quartet music was sung by Kenneth King, Mrs. Chris Heppler, Mrs. R. S. Foresman, and Harry Nicoll, accompanied by Mrs. J. B. Roszell.
Interment was in the Lake Park cemetery.
Relatives and friends from out of town attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Lowrey of Eagle Lake, Minn., Mrs. Ada Grady, and Mrs. W. L. Nichols of Mankato, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Victor Calkins of Lumberton, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Bates and Irene of Spencer, Mrs. Claude Northey, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Bates of Milford, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Yager, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Yager of Lake Park, Mrs. Mary Yager and Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Yager of Spirit Lake, Mr. and Sirs. John Baker and Deloras of Superior, Mrs. Mrs. J. H. Nicoll of Sibley, and Mrs. Earl Horton of Worthington, Minn.
